Our Story

Hi, I’m Louise, Founder and Owner of Love Your Lights. I believe it’s important to know who you’re buying from, yet so many ‘About Us’ sections on websites don’t share the real story. Here’s mine.

After holding various corporate roles in Product Management and Marketing across NZ, Australia and the UK, I left for maternity leave. Years later, I thought I was ready to return and reignite my career. I was offered a role at Google, which seemed like the pinnacle of success, but deep down, I knew it wasn’t what I wanted my next chapter to be. 

I had always dreamed of starting my own business—a venture where I could apply everything I had learned in my corporate career while gaining control over my work-life balance and financial future. I wanted a business that was relocatable, allowing it to be operated from anywhere and grow into a family-run endeavour. 

My journey began by exploring businesses for sale, and I stumbled upon a decorative lighting company looking for a new owner. While I wasn’t drawn to its branding, marketing, or website, I saw potential. However, I also found the product offerings incredibly confusing and overwhelming. After researching the industry, I realised that this was the norm for online lighting retailers. As a potential customer, I felt lost—and I knew I could do better. That’s when I discovered my passion for lighting.

From that moment on, my mission was clear: to build an online business that provided high-quality lighting, beautiful and aspirational imagery, and a seamless, simplified shopping experience for customers. 

After six months of researching and testing different suppliers, I selected the manufacturing partners I wanted to work with. Four years later, those relationships remain strong.

For the first six months, I managed everything on my own. A year in, my husband Alex left his sales and marketing job to join me full-time. The running joke was that it was always “my” business until it turned a profit—then it became “our” business! What started as an idea over kitchen table discussions in 2019 has since blossomed into the family business I always envisioned.

Since then, our team has expanded, allowing us to ship globally. Based in Kerikeri, New Zealand, our warehouse serves as a hub for deliveries across New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific Islands.

We remain committed to the mission that started it all: bringing beautiful, high-quality decorative lighting to homes and businesses while ensuring customers enjoy a positive and empowering shopping experience. We want to provide that “aha moment”—the excitement and inspiration that comes with creating a stunning lighting project.  

So, welcome to Love Your Lights! We hope to inspire you on your lighting journey and become your go-to lighting advisor. When your friends come over and say, “Love your lights!” we want you to smile and reply, “Funnily enough, that’s where I got them from!”
